General Health

People come to In The Clear with all kinds of physical problems that have persisted or have not resolved in the way they expected.

These may include ongoing pain, fatigue, symptoms following injury, illness or other difficulties that remain troublesome even after the original problem should have improved.

The problems can be very different, so we do not assume that they all have the same cause.

Our approach is to work with the responses and patterns we find in the individual person and see whether anything changes as those responses settle.

What do we mean by a problem that has not resolved?

Many physical symptoms begin for an understandable reason — for example after an injury, illness or period of unusual strain.

Often, the body gradually returns towards normal as the original problem resolves.

Sometimes, however, the symptoms continue long after the initial event has passed, or they repeatedly return without an obvious new cause.

Within the Boulderstone Technique, we are interested in whether some part of the response to the original problem appears to remain active rather than having fully settled.

How do we work with these difficulties?

You usually lie fully clothed on the treatment couch while the practitioner makes gentle contact, most often at your head. When a specific part of the body is injured or need healing we work directly on that part, e.g. a bad back or a painful shoulder.

The practitioner begins from their own still point and pays attention to any tension or movement that appears through the contact.

Nothing is forced or manipulated. The practitioner follows the changing response as it develops and allows it to come to an end in its own time.

We are interested in whether the response associated with the problem can settle and whether anything changes in the way you experience the symptom afterwards.

Sometimes a clear change occurs during a session. At other times the process may be more gradual, and some difficulties may not respond.

Do I need to know what is causing the problem?

No.

Sometimes there is an obvious starting point, such as an injury or illness. At other times, the reason a symptom has persisted is much less clear.

You do not need to work out the cause before coming to see us.

We begin with what you are experiencing now and work with the responses we find during the session.

Thinking about an appointment?

If you have a persistent physical difficulty and are unsure whether the Boulderstone Technique may be relevant, you are welcome to contact us before booking.

A brief description of what has been happening, how long it has been present, and whether you have had any medical assessment is usually enough.

We can then explain how we would approach the problem and whether an appointment seems appropriate.
